FAQ: Does TerraZyme Contain Aspergillus?
If you have seen "aspergillus" in the label, you may be wondering about this, as aspergillus can be problematic for sufferers of mold illness and other chronic issues. Fortunately, this product is comprised of enzymes made by aspergillus, but the product does not contain aspergillus. Bridgit has been on this supplement with no ill effects for several years while recovering from chronic mold.
"Most dietary enzyme supplements are derived from plants such as papaya and pineapple or fungal sources. Enzymes derived from certain strains of Aspergillus fungi constitute the majority of enzymes in dietary supplements, and are highly purified from the fungal organism.
These fungi are not the same as yeast (Candida albicans), and cannot promote or cause a yeast infection. Aspergillus is a common household contaminant to which we are constantly exposed. Many people who are sensitive to molds can take the enzymes with no problems. Often, fungal enzymes are better tolerated than enzymes from plant latex sources, such as papaya and pineapple." (source)
"Enzymes are not grown on Aspergillus but secreted for their own benefit. We can harvest those enzymes and share those benefits of the enzymes that Aspergillus secretes." (source)
